I have a neighbor here in town who has a 91 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 pickup that has a spun bearing in the motor.

Not exactly sure how much he would want for it but he keeps pestering me to put a motor and tranny into another pickup he has.

The truck has a manual in it and doesnt look to bad.

Would it be worth it to get that from him, and take the new gm 350 from my 80 and then use the 91 and junk the rest of the 80?

What I need to to do to the 80 is get the auto and transfer case back in, change both axles and change out the rear springs.

What would you guys do, keep the 80 and go, or get the 91 and junk the 80?

Also the 80 is pretty much rust free which is a bit rare for up here.

i would give the 91 a go--keep the FI--it's gotta do better than what your 80 does, mpg wise--sure seems like the labor on his other rig would buy the 91 and maybe get ya some extra to boot---i am slowly but surely becoming a big fan of fuel injection--after market style(minimal sensors)

parting out or selling the rust free roller shouldn't be much of a chore--most of those year models have been to the crusher and parts are getting harder to find

I'm with JD, get the 91 if it's clean and put an engine in it, if you have the resources to do it. Those 80(ish) models are old and gas hogs plus yours needs way more work than it's worth, even if the body is above average. Even if you did all that work to it you'd still only have a $1200-$1500 pickup.
Keep the throttle body efi on the 91, it's a great system.
