Question about 6.9 Ford Diesel engine Empty Question about 6.9 Ford Diesel engine

Ran into my brother in law the other day and he asked me if I was interested in a pickup that he has.

Its an 85 F-250 and has the 6.9 Diesel in it.

From what he is saying is that the truck doesnt have tires on it, and he was gonna junk it.

The engine ran but did smoke a bit, the big reason it got parked is cause it was hard starting cold and the C-6 tranny had went out.

He said if I wanted to buy it for parts he would sell it to me for scrap value, which we figured would be about 500 bux.

Would it be worth it to get the engine and possibly the drive train or should I tell him no thanks?

I suppose it depends on the shape the rest of it's in. The old six nine isn't a bad engine, probably needs glow plugs and they all smoke when they get a little age on them. But on the down side it probably isn't worth fixing either. I have a friend with one that's a 4x4 I could have for 5 bills and the engine only has 20,000 on it. They were pretty much a pig with the C6 behind them.
I'd say more like $200 if you really want it. Scrap is about $140-$150 here on cars and it will go a little over 2 ton so maybe $350 at best for scrap value and he has to get tires on to load it, drain all the fluids and haul it somewhere, basically a whole day pissed away, just to get the $300-$350. So it should be worth something less if you are going to remove it.
