I hate this car I have decided.....soon it will be gone....anyways:

I have a whining noise and I'm not really sure what is going on. In first thru third there is a whine that sounds similar to a throw out bearing that is going out (already changed it and the pilot bearing which didn't help see below). The higher the rpm's the higher the whine. I can't hear anything in fourth or fifth.

With this issue I thought it was just a throw out bearing. I run a spec stage 2 plus clutch (approx 7,000 miles on it) that I think is extremely noisy. Anyways I replaced the pilot bearing and the throw out and now the clutch is even louder and the throw out bearing makes a squeaking noise occasionally. I adjusted the clutch and it didn't make much difference. I have read about steeda's clutch quadrient and was wondering if the clutch cable would really stretch enough to all this needed changed and if so do you think these two issues are related?

Since this post I put on a mustang forum I put in a manual adjustable clutch cable and that didn't do a damn thing other than make that annoying clutch even louder. As soon as the clutch is engaged everything sounds normal but disengaged it is noisy and that tranny whine drives me insane! Could it be an input bearing on the tranny or?

Why would it whine in first through third but not forth and fifth....that's what I can't get my little head wrapped around....

I know in 4th its a direct connection and maybe it locks the shafts together so the bearing cant whine.

Or it could be the countershaft bearing since that is used for everything but 4th and 5th.

cheers ding, ding, ding, We have a winner cheers

    Spart gets the prize. cheers

Noise in lower gears that disappears in high gear is a classic symptom of failed countershaft bearings. In that trans I suspect that 4th is direct and 5th is overdrive. In both gears the only work the countershaft is doing is slinging oil.
