    Diesel dually Empty Diesel dually

    Post by willowbilly3 Thu Mar 22, 2012 4:03 am

Found one I might buy. My buddy that works for a dealership put me on it. It just came in on trade. 1999 F-350 cab and chassis with a 7.3, 6 speed and 4.10 gear. It's showing 210,000 and has some hail damage, seat is shot, tires fair, needs water pump. $2642.50
We tried to fire it up last night but it wouldn't start. He's pretty sure it has a bad connector in the injector harness, typical to that model. He's going to check it out today. It is clean as a whistle underneath, not a drip of oil anywhere. It's the longer wheelbase so it will take a 12 foot bed.
Not a Cummins like I wanted, but not Cummins price either. Should do what I need just fine, pull trailer.

That should be a pretty good rig, JB! There's really nothing wrong with those Power Strokes from that era, as far as I'm concerned. Like you say, not a Cummins, but damned sure not a Cummins price!! Hope it goes smooth and ya get it!!!

Yeah, still not sure what's wrong with it. They had it running yesterday and it's definitely missing on a few cylinders, might have to buy a few injectors

My buddy Bob is doing the deal. Since he works there he can get the better deal than I could. They are going to let him run a cylinder balance and compression check the holes that aren't firing. If all the cylinders are strong we will throw some injectors and glow plugs in it. Bob has a set of injectors I can have.

Cant find anything worth driving round here for that price.

I just looked at a beat up 1 ton that you could obviously tell it pulled gooseneck trailers, had a bed liner that rubbed away a ton of bed paint, was beat up, plus used hood pin/bolts to hold the hood shut.

They still wanted 9 grand for it.

If it says diesel here, no matter how shot it is (cept for the 5.7 diesel) your looking at close to 10 grand starting price.

Yeah, pretty much the same here except for 6.5 chevys and those old IDI Fords. I was looking at a 92 Dodge one ton dually for $3500. Non turbo and the troublesome NV4500 5 speed but it sold. Any cummins or halfway decent running powerstroke will cost upwards of 8 grand. BTW, this one turns out to be a 2000. The Ford 6 speed doesn't shift as nice as a Dodge but they seem to hold up pretty good.

We pulled a compression test on it tonight. Low was just under 300 and high was about 325. Should be good to go with a set of injectors.

We still need to put in the injectors. Dealership lost 4 people from the shop this week and Bob has been going in at 5 so I hate to crowd him. I did get the truck bought today, 2 grand.

got the left bank changed and got her running. 1,5 and 7 all dead so need to change the right bank. I have to get over to Sturgis and pull the other 4 injectors from the junkyard.
