This was waiting for us less than 20' from the front door last night when we came home for supper... the small track on the left is from our dog (who was luckily with us all day, instead of outside at home as usual...), a 55# Border Collie/Aussie cross...

Here's a shot of just how close to the house this is...and the livestock...

Ya think this "wolf thing" is a bit out of hand????

yep--time for whatever measures are necessary --- How does that print compare with the bitch ya got last week--size wise?????????

i'd like to come up and help ya with the cleanout--fork all them others and all that wolf lovin' chit--i don't really want extinction but wtf?????

i had been tryin' to convince Julie of the size of an owl that lives in the creek bottom just east of us--i know it has gotten a cat or two--well, she saw it 2 days ago and today it buzzed the yard about 3 times--better than a 6 ft wing span---and me with no phone camera on me

That track is just a little smaller than the one I shot a week ago.
The trouble is finding them! They're smarter than hell!!! When they finally opened up a wolf season here, everyone ran down and bought tags, figuring they'd run right out and get one... they only took in 160 statewide, including the ones that the Feds and State killed... These suckers are really something to try to get! A friend of mine is a Fed wolf trapper, and I was quizzing him on them and their habits...his only reply was that a wolf will do what it will do...he's been trapping and shooting them fulltime for the past 20 years, and he says he still gets suprised almost every day!

We used to trap east texas wolves when I was kid. My Uncle was the most successful of anyone. He just hung a large treble hook on a steel wire chin high and baited it with something from the locker plant. Gruesome, but it sure worked

I think those east Texas wolves are what we call coyotes up here, some maybe crossed with dogs. I've seen them within 150 yards in broad daylight a couple times. They were bigger than our coyotes but looked just like them.

We had real wolves here back in the 60's and earily 70's. Smaller than yours of course. 100-125# was average. They may have been crossed with something, I don't know. We thought they were mexican wolves. Then we had wild dog packs. Worse than the wolves. We eliminated both which just opened the door for the coyotes. We never had a coyote here until the mid 80's.. I believe coyotes are a lot smarter than the wolves or wild dog packs. Then I moved away and don't know of anyone who traps them anymore. They shoot them on site but thats a small munber.

I had a catahoula as a teenager. Good stock dog and guard dog. Only wolfing he did was in his food bowl.

    Very interesting read.
We had a species of wolf here called the prairie wolf I think. Hunted to extinction, the last one taken around 1930.
