what a load of horse hockey-----this is undoubtedly the craziest idea foisted upon the consumer in the near past--sell me a 50k car and tell me to feed it 8 buck a qt oil--sheesh scratch

Dang, my 06 F250 6.0 diesel only uses 1.5 quarts at 5k. Regular scheduled oil changes at 7.5k. I change it at 5k

Just off the top of my head (this is why there's no hair there anymore..Shocked  ) Back when I worked on Curtiss Wright's.. the 1820-82B was ok to use up to 100# of oil an hour on the test cell. With oil at 8#/gallon, that's a bit over 12 gallons an hour.... if it was less than that, we could "buy it off" legally according to the factory..... fortunately, all of ours were down around the 2-4#/hour when they were run in, or I had them pulled and re-honed... or Bon-Ami. zero vis oil??? 301330

HTJ---what is the visc rating on the oil for those engines? i am guessing the oil usage for aircraft engines would be to keep them from sticking (seizing) at altitude? study

JD, we ran 40WT in those. Some ran 50. In the end, we were running and recommending 20W50 Aeroshell, as it's not a pure synthetic, and we'd gotten the cylinders approved to be ceramichromed in the barrells. Up to that point they were only approved to be steel with no plating.
Aircraft engines are built very loose, so that if something fails, it will keep turning.... hopefully all the way to the crash. haha
