Ok, I thought you were the one who had it before. Anyway, here is the best and simplest version I found.

OOPS!, where did that come from, try it again.

Spart, maybe it was the wiring for the GM module into a Duraspark distributor that you had. I'd like that infor for my archives too, so I don't have to tear apart the loom and trace mine out to see.

here is my best shot at some hand written notes from the the late 1900's Hey Spart 301330

i put a gm 1 wire on the 72 bump i was driving at the time

    here is what i wrote

    3 wire plug from harness

    red
    yellow
    black with yellow stripe

terminate red and yellow(cut and tape off)

black/yellow----bundle with alternator wire and red wire to positive amp meter side

black wire(neg amp meter) to battery side of solenoid

big red wire at dash to positive side of coil

    next page

red wire with blue stripe to s side of solenoid

brown wire to I side of solenoid

honestly--it was so long ago i have a hard time deciphering it--i do know that when i got thru everything worked as it should using the stock ford harness

as soon as i mow a path to the truck, i'll see if i can get a pic--if the wires are still there

    hope this helps

    other notes from same time

2 wire plug from horn relay
    yellow/blue stripe
    green/red stripe
(i noted disconnect do not use)
**not sure why as of this date

yellow wire-horn relay--bundle with orange wire to fuel pump(i was running elec pump at the time)---also goes with black/yellow stripe to positive side of ammeter & alternator blue wire

    blue wire/yellow stripe--horn relay--leave intact

i did this during the pre find it on the internet days--took me a couple of full days in the shop to get it working

That one would be to hook up a Gen 3 alternator to the bump.

I have some somewhere of where to hook up the GM 3 wire to a bump.

These 3Gs for conventional mount are a little hard to come by, just a couple years of mustangs and econolines I guess. The rest bolt down solid and us the tensioner system. I like the idea of keeping my Fords all Ford. I know lots of people like the delco but I changed 100 of them for every Ford alternator that ever went bad when I had a shop. Just more GM junk like the 350 chevy engines.

Why couldnt you just use the mounting brackets and use the alternator like a normal one?

Might be able to clock the case of em as well. I know with the small GM alternators they came out with after the big S1's you could simply unbolt the rear bolts and clock the tabs and case as you needed.

Hell you could get one or ten off of some old taurus's for cheap and play with em.

Look at the images here, better explains the normal mounting system.

You can see how the bolts go sideways to bolt them on. This is the normal configuration.

good find on the nation's site

all the alts i have used in the past 10 years were rebuilt locally--sadly, those guys shut the doors a year or more ago due to the economy--they were fanatical about using top shelf components--both guys were sharp and taught me a lot

out of 3 1 wires i have run from them the only failure was the 1 i put on the bump--i attribute that to my experimentation to get it wired into the ford harness--it still went for 6 months--they fixed it and i ran it for another year or so until i parked the truck after engine failure--this was pre ford-i-fi-kashun days

the other 2 have been on the t'all and the nova--no failures and plenty of miles

jb--i would say go with the 2 g and a top brand voltage reg and call it good

there is a particular brand name i can not recall just now--Clay knows it because we have discussed them here b4--soon as i remember i will post it

The 2G or early 3G alts arent bad, but you gotta make sure to keep the charge plug in good shape.

They would still have the correct mounting setup and be compatible.

Id prefer those over the the old 1G with the external regulator.

BTW thanks for the info on the 3G's

I thought I read somewhere that the 3G's they used on the Taurus's was still the old style mounting. May have been prescription pill haze...... Hey Spart 301330
