Lookin good. I built ours last year. 12x12. I built it a couple feet off the ground with treated 3/4" plywood floor, 2x12s on 16". I also built the door a full 4 feet wide. I figure in a couple years my sister will tire of the chickens and it will make a great storage shed that a 4 wheeler or snowmobile will fit through the door.

This one is gonna be 16X8 4 foot of it is gonna be storage for the feed, bedding etc.

Thinking about reusing a POS Larson storm door for the main entrance. Its a 36" door but opens to the left.

Would make getting into the coop in the winter a little tough with it swinging that way.

The front is built with 8 foot walls.

Gotta be coon proof here. I have a 6 foot high dog run for a pen and they have skinneyed over that and ate chickens. Took out the ruffled banties all in one night.A storm door wouldn't keep them out.

    LOL!!

Its actually only 4 feet longer than the original coop that was there, but I do admit that front wall is mighty impressive.

Coon proof around here involves steel grating, barbed wire, security cameras and big locks.

    Oops. Wrong kind of coon.

    Lookin good Spart. Nice job.

And don't forget snakes, not much problem here but in Texas them dam rat snakes or coach whips would eat half grown chickens. Red tailed hawks too. Barn owls can do some damage but generally don't come in that close.

ya'll need one of those grand pyrenees dogs--they are supposed to be champion livestock protectors--there was one close by whitney,tx--that dog would stand flat footed and look over the cab of a pickup

There's a little country store with gas pumps not far from the Peterbilt dealer. Stays open 24hrs during the week. You can still pump first then pay. The owner works steady night shift. He carries a .44 mag on a hip holster and has a row of trophys from shooting competions above the cigarette rack. Swears he's never had a driveoff on his shift. Seems like a nice guy. The backhoe that is always parked next to the building makes me wonder though.

    Thanks guys.

Got some work done on it last night that I didnt get pics of or really needed pics of.

Nailed down the main supports to the RR ties with some angle ties. They aint much, but really all they gotta do is keep the coop on the ground.

Also got another roof rafter up.

Got a late start so I didnt get to much done.

Looking good Spart. Nice work. Heck if we lived a tad closer I'd be asking for help when I start on my garage this coming spring.

    Really alley?

Hell this is the first building Ive put up.

Did a shitload of paper planning before I ever bought a board.

Was gonna just do it the regular wall way but with the 2x4's 2 foot on center, but I thought Id give the post and beam style a try.

I also used the old coop as a plan as to what has worked up here. I can tell ya it wasnt anything special.

Hopefully it lasts more than a year. LOL
