Yah, there's some great stuff out there...gotta be damned careful anymore! I try to stick with the known stuff...like MEK.... I KNOW it's bad for me, but I have about 50 gallons here yet! 
Seriously, the very very little I've done aluminum, I was always told to never use any spray chemicals. I use alcohol on the 4130 tubing I weld...so at least I'm just gonna get drunk.
I have to wonder about some of the additives that are in the fuels now a days... they've got to be bad stuff and still lurking when you're welding...
Sounds like this guy got pretty lucky to not get it any worse than he did!
