I have been debating this for about a month and haven't made up my mind. In early December I caught one of my employees texting on her phone which is grounds for automatic termination (I have never terminated anyone else for this). When she came back in later that day I asked about it and she said she was never on her phone. Now I absolutely hate liars but I was short on help and we had a week left so I didn't do anything. A month later I get super pissed anytime I think about it and when I came back to my desk after hours today she left a note on my desk saying she needed to cut two hours off her schedule so she could eat lunch before going to class (everyone had to give me an availability in December and she gave me those three hours). I am super short on help and she currently is the only person I have during the the time she cut when I normally have four an hour. Would you can her or what? I know I want to but I don't know if I can afford to as I have class during the blank spot and it will be two weeks before I get anyone hired and mostly ready to go. I'm also going to talk to the manager tomorrow about the availability deal as that pisses me off its personal (class change I can't say much about).

2 hours for lunch? I would sit her down and have a serious face to face. Texting, lying and cutting work, that's 1-2-3 strikes. Give her one more chance. And mean it.

Re: What would you do?
tell her to pack a lunch
shape up or ship out
or
ask her if she knows the difference between a big mac and a blowjob
if she says she doesn't--tell her you can hook her up for lunches

As much as I like JD's advice.... I'd have to say that JB has a good idea there. Sit down and let her know the cards are against her.... but don't get in a pissing match just yet... Let her know she's on thin ice, and start looking for a replacement ASAP. When you find someone good, you can go back to this gal and let her know she's about out of there and will be if she screws up one more time! Sucks to be the boss sometimes!

Or just run her off if she gives you any lip. I would have a third person sit in the meeting, and document everything, maybe even run a recorder and let her know when the meeting begins that you are recording (can't do it without her consent/knowledge).willowbilly3 wrote: 2 hours for lunch? Re: What would you do?
lets see if I got this right, "If she gives you any lip" "Run a recorder" "have a third person present" We have the makings of a porn movie
Seriously, Write out the infractions and have her sign it. Give her a copy, keep a copy. Let her know this is her last chance and do it in front of a witness, start looking for her replacement asap because she will do it again. Just my 2cents

Well, you can't be too careful. what if she gets pissed and starts some sexual harassment crap. The man is always presumed guilty and it gets messy fast. Keep cool.

Re: What would you do?
I don't think you could pay me enough to touch that.....I canned her today I caught her yesterday sitting in a building for an hour doing absolutely nothing. I think she knew it was coming she didn't say a word.....most of our office is under survaliance because of all the angry customers we get.
