    Post by 71ford100 Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:31 am

Does anyone have any knowledge about led lights? I want to redo our flatbed with LED's to be done with broken bulbs and other problems I have with the current light system. I did notice that alot of the marker lights have two wires instead of one, is one a ground and one a power?

In case anyone knows of a kit for one I have a '24 Titan.

havent reviewed em, but they sure seem bright in the taillights of the UPS and fedex trucks.

The semi guys here have em as well and they will blind ya.

Been thinking about fitting a set into the rear lights on the bump to get some light out of em, but cant get to the truck right now

LED's have to be grounded at the site of the light. They draw less amps and are allot brighter that fillament bulbs, can come in flatter housings to so that makes em popular trailer lights

LED's are pretty popular with thieves so be sure to bolt them down. You might want to check out this link.

I found that after hearing about an LED version of the common #194 push in marker light bulb. One of these days I'm gonna convert all the lights in my 72 to LED bulbs.

    Nice site.

Im thinking of cutting up the metal housing that holds the taillight bulb and then mounting a LED oblong tail light in its place behind the lens.

Think that would work, or should I just paint the tin with a chrome paint and put the LED bulb in place of the regular bulb?

One thing to keep in mind about LED's Lance, is that they don't generate enough heat to keep themselves clear of snow in the winter. The old incandescent bulbs at least do that. The LED's are awesome in that they don't take any power, last forever and are bright, not to mention vibration resistant!

Thats one thing I was kind of worried about John. I thought that maybe I would get LED taillights but stick with a regular 3light bar in the middle so some kind of light is visible. I want to stay fairly cheap since its the parentals trailer and my middle brother is really good at breaking lights! I have to move the back corner clearance lights somewhere because they are ALWAYS getting broke off maybe I will use convential bulbs there and then a conventional amber in the middle and LED ambers in the front and end of the flatdeck before the dovetail. If I don't get slammed this week with that homework stuff I may try and do it this weekend and will get some pictures.

Spart I'm thinking of going with the LED bulb and painting the housing. If you do it that way just remember what JH said about LED's not generating any heat. For me it's a non issue since my 72 gets parked at the first hint of snow.

I guess I dont even think about heat generation, cause the lights are never on long enough or seem to get warm enough to bother, at least on tail lights.

Now on headlights that may be something totally different.

    Lance,
Mount them in the rubber grommet in the holes like my tail lights are. I've used this on dump trucks, logging trucks, everything and it works great! In a worst case, I cut a ring of steel, say a couple inches deep, and mount the light in the inside of that in it's rubber grommet... that really protects them.

i am gonna put a set of 2 of these on each side of the nova to replace the factory lites--will have to patch panel--then mount the lites--found a place to buy small pieces of chrome diamond plate very reasonable--that's what i will use for the patch

they would probably look pretty good mounted vertical on a bumpside bed

Thems look sharp. What functions can they replace?

Could put say like 4 of em in the taillight and have 2 blink on the blinker and the other 2 either keep running as tail lights or as brakes.
