Did you know that in 84 and 85 Lincoln had a bmw diesel engine with a gertrag od tranny?

Would have been in the Continental Mark VII and the Continental.

Power was rated at 114hp @4800 and 162ft lbs @2400.

I had found that several years ago while searching for parts, never seen one though. And I did not know the maker, thought it might have been the little Nissan. I bet they never sold more than a handfull of them. 162 Ft.Lb. torque would have been a serious dog I'm afraid.

I did a little research and it seems Ford bought 1000 of the engines from BMW so the total number of Lincolns was something less than that. Also read it was a ZF transmission, not a Getrag.

I had a new 1980 Ford Courier, open the hood and it said Mazda.
Mine was the 2.0 liter gas with a 4spd.
I wanted the diesel model but couldn't find one and I was in a hurry
Just found this info and a link on the courier
Wish I has that turbo diesel in 4x4

The Ford Courier was never available with a diesel engine in the US. However, the 1980 Mazda B2200 was available with a Perkins 4.135 (4 cylinder, 135 cu in) manufactured 2.2 liter diesel engine, producing 66 horsepower at 2,100 rpm, and xxx ft-lbs of torque at xxx rpm. This same diesel engine was available in the 1983 and 1984 Ford Ranger, but was supplanted by the mitsubishi 4D55T 2.3 liter turbodiesel for the 1985 to 1988 Ford Rangers. Overseas, Mazda continued to develope their diesel engines, and the 2007 Ford Courier comes standard with a 2.5 liter turbodiesel engine, producing 110 horsepower at 3,500 rpm, and 200 ft-lbs of torque at 2,000 rpm.

those numbers are very close to what the 196 ihc offered in the little scouts(110 at 2000 rpm iircc)---there was no such thing as dbl digit mileage with that engine--whaddya suppose the mitsu is getting them??

    Hey no problem cj.

Im seriously considering trying to find a diesel engine to put into one of my vehicles and running it on veggie oil.

Seems like the big swaps use the cummins, isuzu, and mercedes benz engines.

cj--great link--a buddy in Dallas had one of those back around 92/93---drove her till she cratered--it would barely get out of it's own way, what with the load of forklift repair tools he piled on it, but it would do it all day long---his payload forced him into a mid eighties f150 300 6--3 speed with od--he promptly overloaded that one too,--last time i saw him in about 2000, he was till puttin' around Dallas in it

right on Spart--that's the direction i am headed--a car for the missus and a truckster for the mr--give me a dbl order of fries and all your used fryer oil--vroom vroom (insert speed racer icon) Did you know? 301330

The 6.2/6.5 do pretty good on grease. I have a buddy running one. He's too cheap to put all the heaters and stuff on so he doesn't run the veggie oil in the winter. He also cooks his off, uses some lye and methanol. Ends up with about 50 cents a gallon in it.
Oh, don't get the 94 and up GM with all the compouter crap, they are a pita when they get old. Anyway, you could drop one right in that cheby pickemup.

The cheby diesels werent to popular up here by the time the 6.2/6.5's came out.

To many people snapped up the 5.7's when they first came out and got really burnt by em.

So when chevy finally came out with the ne ones, nobody was interested

Well, they have some weaknesses but they do bolt in where any chevy engine was and they are cheap/easy to find, plus they get decent mileage.

    That is true willow.

So far in 15 years I have only seen two of em around here though. One was in a junk yard the other I got to ride in.

It was kinda weak in power.

They aren't a ball of fire, but they'll go a long ways if they're taken care of, Spart. I'm kinda suprised they weren't popular back there.... there were lots of 'em in WA and here.

There's a bunch of them around here. I've got one sitting in my yard. I think it's a 94. 5 speed truck. I put a used engine in it for a friend of mine a couple years ago and he never came to get it. It's one of those darned electronic 6.5s (the ones to stay away from) and we can't make it run. It is a nice clean truck. He paid a grand for it with a rod hanging out the side. He owns a few others and he has a 95 with the same elusive problem. I am trying to get him to switch them over to the old 6.2 pump with no electronic crap.
My nephew has 4-5 of them including one of the mid 80s military ones. He also bought about 10 of those 6.2 Hummer take out engines from when they switched them all over to 6.5 turbos.
They ain't no ball of fire but they do make a decent grease burner. Plus they are cheap to work on. Even a set of injectors don't cost much more than a set of spark plugs. Spart, I bet if you get out on some farms and ask around you would find them around there.
Another good old diesel that are cheap is the 6.9 Fords. I know of one I could buy that ain't bad, $500. I would buy it too if it wasn't an automatic. They were kind of a pig for towing with the slushbox in them. I also passed up a dually for $450 and it had all new tires. I passed it on to a friend who needed the engine. They have more power than the 6.2 but didn't get as good of fuel mileage.
The old Mercedes are a good grease burner but you can't find a decent one for less than a couple grand, and the 4 bangers are a serious dog. Get a 300 with the 5 cylinder if you get one. They rust worse than a chevy though and most of them have cancer.
I also know of 3-4 Diesel Datsun pickups around. They are a great little oil burner. Toyota made a good one too but they are a little hard to find and generally fetch 2500-3500. Ford sold a Ranger diesel for a couple years and every once in a while one of them pop up. Mazda sold a diesel in their little pickup and there was the Isuzu too. Also Mitsubishe, they even had a turbo. All good little engines that would do 35+ mpg. Ford even put a nice little German diesel in some escorts, 40+ mpg car.
I've got a good friend with an old 2wd Datsun diesel you could buy for probably $700. It runs good but the body is beat up.
They are all like any old junk, you have to get out and find them, ask around, check out leads and be ready to do some tinkering when you find one.

I know of an old Datsun/Nissan super cab 4x4 with a good body or use to know of one
Sure like to have it with that diesel in it you know of WB
Too many miles, time and money for me right now or I,d go for it
A road trip sure sounds good this spring
Well that would be two road trips, one to get the truck and meet you
and one to Wolf Ok. to get the other truck and meet JD
If I could get both of em on the 24' gooseneck I could stop in Ok. pick up JD
and both could come get that old Datsun you know of and then load the 4x4 on the back haul
    That'd be a fun trip
