I got an email that he is selling it and we agreed I would have first chance if he ever did. The flywheel gear is bad and needs changed out. I won't give him the $3000 he paid me but I would go $2000. I have always kind of missed the old girl, best riding 3/4 ton pickup I ever owned and just a pure joy to drive. I'd probably just park it until I could find a replacement for the tire 390, maybe a 460 5 speed or a 4BT cummins.

Re: My old crew cab.
We nailed down a deal today. I'm trading him my 92 with the 300-6 and $100 for the crew. We'll finish the deal in a couple weeks when I have the money.

Oops, missed a zero, my 92 and $1000. I have maybe $800 into the 92 and drove it 4 years. It's always been a gas hog and the Holley needs to go away but I have too many other things more pressing and now that I have the power stroke, don't really need the truck. The old crew will probably just set until I gather stuff to do something with it.willowbilly3 wrote: We nailed down a deal today. I'm trading him my 92 with the 300-6 and $100 for the crew. Re: My old crew cab.
I've been running through my mind what drivetrain I'd like to find for it. A 4BT would be sweet but they are pricey. A 6BT would be too heavy on the nose for the old girl and also a Ford (Navstar) would too I think. If I find a good 2wd 460 5 speed for cheap I might go that way but I have another weird idea. How about a 6.2 Chevy with a 6.5 turbo and a NP 5 speed? That stuff is easy/cheap to find and it would get good mileage, plus the engine wouldn't be too heavy and I could run veggie oil if I wanted. Plus my mephew has about 10 of them in the crates that were removed from HummVees.

Re: My old crew cab.
Only hard part might be finding a manual flywheel.
Thought most of them 6.2's had slushboxes.
Could be wrong. Wouldnt be the first time.

Hmm, not sure there Spart but I have seen a lot of 5 speed 6.5 turbos with broken crankshafts so I figured something like that for a donor only use the old manual pump 6.2 with the turbo and 5 speed from the 6.5. Generally a new flywheel is in order if the 6.5 still has a dual mass pos flywheel.

I had a buddy that had a 6.2 with a stick. It did alot better than my 6.2 with an auto! The only thing I'd be careful of is the crank when you turbo it, but you've got enough brains not to try to hot rod it all the time so it'd probably last forever!

Re: My old crew cab.
oh my---the abomination of it all----a bowtie mill in a blue oval rig --say it ain't so, joe
only a razz bub
it would be a good time to modernise the front end--steering and such--than any engine ya want could work, but in your case i would be all over those on hand--as the old saying goes--built not bought
i haven't researched it but there should be a way to tighten up one of those automatics--or adapt a good one from another lineage -- case in point--the gm 2 speed was known as the slushbox--now is the preferred dragstrip transmission---i would like to have a 6.5 with auto to put in the 4wd t'all--actually what i would really like is the setup out of an ud--not a hotrod but a good combo--good for a million miles easy

Re: My old crew cab.
Well, it's all just the thinking process right now. The weight and fuel consumption on the GM is what got me to thinking, plus they don't cost much. Since it's 2wd, I want to avoid getting the nose too heavy. Those old F250s ain't even up to snuff with a newer F150 for GVW and towing capacity and dam sure don't weigh as much/ I'l end up with whatever falls in my lap mo doubt. I might even go through the old 390 if I could find a way to put a 5 speed on it but $4 gas and a 390 means it wouldn't get driven much.
