Re: deutz diesel rat rod
gotta be from sw ks----they used that engine for irrigation pumps---air cooled
correction based on tagged in IL--they use a lot of irrigation also
between great bend and garden city--a ride on a calm night and you could hear 100's of bb's running wot--those deutz were highly sought after in those days---much quieter, longer lasting & ran on the diesel
still---that melody of hp singing thru the nite was something i'll have forever

That rig has been getting a lot of low key press on the forums.

Re: deutz diesel rat rod
I like it!! Never been around the little Deutz' but they used some V12 Deutz in some of the bigger Washington Tower yarders... you could tell when they started them in the mornings, because it was smoked in for a long ways!! I also saw a V12 Deutz in a brand new Peterbilt in Missoula at the dealership in the late 70's. It wsa awesome!! The guy that bought it said it really hauled ass and pulled like nothing else on the road at that time, and was way lighter as well.(lighter makes huge difference when hauling logs, as you're payed by the ton/mile, so more payload adds up quickly)
I wonder how that front end behaves on those long quarter eliptical springs?

Yeah, that rod has popped up on several forums, created quite a bit of interest. I'd like to hear it run.
