Post by Admin Wed Mar 23, 2011 9:43 pm

rear wheel on 95 olds cutlass--front wheel drive--locked up and ground the aluminum wheel down--the wheel is scrap for sure

the odd thing is i had to pry the drum off, along with the standard dead blow licks and some 2 lb licks for good measure--i cannot find any thing wrong inside the drum

    has me baffled

i was not the operator at the time

wondering if anyone else has seen this??

Once, had a Mustang come in on the wrecker with the tire wore till it blew out and the rim flattened off. Girl had a flat and put the spare on backwards, jammed the wheel against the rotor and the tire never turned, she drove until it blew. I know a whole different scenario except how in the hell can you drive a car with one tire sliding and not know something ain't right.

i guess i will freshen up the brake cylinders and hope that was the malfunction---it was not an emergency brake malfunction from what i can see

the car had set up for about a yr--situation not in my control--i wanted it towed out here, so i could go thru it --but -- now it's here

Lining was prolly stuck to the drum. Big trucks do that pretty regular

shoes & drum were/ are like new---the wheel cylinder seems to have been the culprit--thankfully i have some unilug wheels--old alum slots i picked up 10 yrs ago and ran on the nova, they will fit with the correct lug nuts--

    i have an UPDATE

i believe the culprit was nylon fishing line--changing the rear shocks and found remnants wound up in the hub assembly

i have heard of plastic sacks wreaking havoc on wheels and drivelines, but fishing line??--damn it, i say affraid

Well 20# line times 500 wraps is how much? Enough to shut down a 95 olds wheel is how much
