Post by Admin Wed Jan 11, 2012 9:38 am

is there something stronger or better about the current type of factory wheels--high positive offset? i think that is the correct term or nomenclature. i still think in terms deep dish and chrome reverse--i still like them better too--just saw a set of 16's with the 5 on 5.5 and big hole center for 50 bucks(cheap imo)--but they sure are fugly

    thought i'd ask :?:

You can order any style or your design you want if you have the bucks. I saw that when that guy Foose had his show a few years back. The bucks part kills it for me. I just wanted a set of the old Craiger classics in 17's when I was doing the 67 build. Couldnt even get em on the phone and now its a stock item. I was just born ahead of my time lol

If you look at the way a front (or rear) strut suspension is designed, the strut is actually pushing in a straight line to the center of the contact patch of the tire. I'm not sure if that's the total reason for the kind of offset they use now but it has to be better or they wouldn't be doing it. Think of the bad stress those old reverse rims put on wheel bearings and front end components, like using a longer handle for more leverage.
