Those flatheads always sound so cool running.

I think it would be cool to own a vehicle that has one, if just for the engine notes.

I like the flatty. The orange V8 bike isn't all that attractive.
I have seen several Boss Hogs around, talked to one guy, I think his was a ZZ4 crate engine. He said he bounced the speedo-o off 200, 3 times which is 230, maybe a little BS but what the hell. I think he said a new one was 40 some G

I've seen a few Boss Hogs. An old pal with way more miles on scoots than me said the balls they have are awesome but the handling pretty much sucks. He loves his baggers and lays them over far enough in the turns to send sparks flying from the exhaust. Told me the weight distribution on a Boss Hog doesn't work for that style of riding.

When I walked around at Stugis for the first time in 20 years, I noticed that 99% of the bikes are baggers now. The other 1% are the fat tired trailer queens. A Boss Hog weighs half again as much as a stock bagger so I suppose the handling would be lacking.

so--does anyone know which part of the flathead configuration gives it such a mellow sound--Cam--heads--or is it just a total package deal---a farmer i worked for had one that we used a a fuel truck--i loved driving that thing

One of the things that give flathead Ford V8s their distinctive cackle is the fact that the exhaust passages run through the block and have water passages around them. The valves are all above the cylinders so the exhaust has to snake around a little to get out.

flat head valves are next to the piston arent they?

How can they be above it?

I dont know much about flat heads other than what Ive seen on the net and read, so I could be wrong

Right, next to the pistons on the top side of the block, not the bottom side where the exhaust ports are, so the ports have to snake through the cylinders and water passages.
