    yesterdays pickin Empty yesterdays pickin

    Post by willowbilly3 Mon Nov 01, 2010 4:57 am

Had a fun day picking yesterday, found lots of old cars but the bad thing is they are about 75 miles out. I'm still trying to figure my new camera out, so pictures not up yet. Finds: several 67-68 Chev/GMC pickups, 2 55 Dodge pickups, 53 Merc, 56 Plymouth Suburban wagon, Hacked up 59 Ford 2 door hardtop, 63 F-100 4x4, 62 and 65 Ford F-600, 59(ish) Dodge 2 ton truck. Also found several engines in the shed including a Y block and a Hemi, at least 5 M Farmalls with loaders, a small Allis Chalmers. At least 3 threshing machines, a couple old combines, one was a side exit case pull type but she won't sell it yet. Well, anyway we picked the sheds a bit and I came home with a box of old license plates, an ancient sun tach transmitter and a tach, box of old lights including 30-31 Model A headlights and tailight. A real cool old John Deere sign, southwind heater and a couple other old heaters.
I would like to save the 3 old cars and the 55 Dodge 5 window and maybe the Allis.
And I drove by another place with even more old cars, definitely have to go back and check that one out as there was a 37 Ford truck setting in the fence row. Gotta love Montana.

    Nikon Coolpix
Question on the AC tractor. It is a small tractor, wide front. It has a 3 spped transmission and a magneto, any idea what model that might be and what it might be worth? I think the back tires are usable and the engine turns with a crank.

it would vary Id say from 250 not running to about 1500 restored.

Make sure to look at where the engine bolts to the tranny, if its been abused they will be cracked/busted here.

No frame on em so it uses the drive train as its frame.

They have about 20 hp give or take.

I figger since it isn't stuck I might take a go at it. Looks like a pretty worthless thing, only 3 speeds and no 3 point lift, can't imagine much uses for it around here. I'd just want to get it running and flip it for a profit.

No shortbox, they are few and far between around here, no rancher ever owned one. Frame is different.

Look on the right side (facing the front of the tractor) where the block meets the bellhousing and the model and serial number will be stamped there. I watched a non-running CA bring $950 at a sale and it was stuck!

But a CA is much newer than a B or C.

The CA had a hand clutch of sorts and that made it more valuable.

This one does not have the hand clutch. I seem to remember that handle being for using the rotobaler, Maybe a size or two bigger tractor but it would stop the tractor while the baler tied the bale.

The WD and the 45's had the handclutch, the CA came along later.

The D series didnt have a hand clutch perse, but it had a range selector with a neutral position.

The CA is the same age as a WD and a WD-45 the CA came out in 50 which is the last year of production for the C....I wouldn't call a CA rare by any means or any more valuable than a C unless you really want a hand clutch....and heck better go with an MM they used em on about everything!

But the hand clutch on an Allis is a secondary clutch, unlike the Molines where it was the primary clutch.

The Allis's used a hand clutch to stop forward movement but keep the pto running, the foot clutch would stop everything.

The collectors of the C's and B's do feel that a CA is worth just a bit more, because of the hand clutch addition, not much more than say couple hundred bux on a good unit though.

    Just more food for thought.

BTW lance you are almost striking me as a closet Allis fan. LOL

I hate it when vomit comes up in your mouth from repugnent statements LOL....I only have a few Allis things, an unstyled WC Serial # 547, a B power unit, and some parts off an old U that was getting cut up (rad core and castings, hood, gas tank, mag, carb, and manifold I believe). I am guilty though my boss has one of those old AC forage choppers I'm going to ask about when he is in a good talkative mood (which should be this weekend since he won his house of reps bid).

It's MM or Cases for my favorite two "popular" brands.....now I would love a Huber, Rumely, N and S, etc.....
