A good read JD. I understood most of the jargon. I hear today on the radio they are going to try and dump a bunch of junk like old tires and golf balls in there to slow it up.
The BOP is the blow out preventor. It has hydraulic rams that can be closed. One set is the pipe rams that can close around the pipe and the other set is the blind rams for when there is no pipe in the hole. I never did believe they could cut drill pipe off like they say they can.
Even with all the technoligy, they were still wildcatting it sounds like. All the gas kicks and lost circulation sounds like things they didn't really know would happen. The same things happened when they drilled the overthrust along the edge of the Rockies over by Evanston Wyoming. When they were wildcatting that area they hit gas they didn't expect. Not being prepared for it, and since the gas has no smell and is deadly, they lost whole crews a couple times when making a connection. I heard one guy tell they showed up for work and the whole crew was dead on the floor in the middle of making a connection.

A good use for Coastal Bermuda too. Cows up here won't even eat that stuff.
