tracking down parts Empty tracking down parts

i will condense 10 yrs here--it's an old recoil start mdl g1600 from generac--they will not claim it--say to call B&S, whom "supposedly" bought that particular mdl/line. i have done this once each yr for the last 10 yrs. needed an o ring for the carb bowl and the needle & seat.

finally, after 2 days of calls & sorry's & 1 minor tantrum, i found a lady at B&S that was willing to spend the time to find the answers

turns out the engine is a kawasaki--best B&S knockoff ever, as far as appearances go

found a local dealer and the parts on on the way

    to be cont.

Had 2 kawasuckies, wakasucky. W E,Sounds like yours was better than mine
    Glad you got your parts
Best mower engine I ever had was a Onan 18hp on a JD 316
Ran that mower over a acre of yard for 10 years then sold it with the house
Passing by last year he was mowing the yard with it
He said it needed a new stater one time and belts, deck bearings and batteries
But he bought it in about 1989
Next best was a Kohler 12.5 on a JD STX 38, mowed 3/4 acre with it 16 years then the x sold it during the Big D. Its still running at her church my son said
Still had the original plug in it when I left, ran great
I only run premium gas in my small engines.
Some people say its BS but I have o engine trouble. They don't
Both the Onan and Kohler had spin on filters so 3-4 times a year the oil and filter got changed and air filter cleaned, Zerts get a pump and good to go

We had a generwreck a few years back, bigun too, I think it was 30 horse. It must have been their own engine, no other name on it. It was the loudest vibrating pos generator I was ever around and even new parts were hell to find. Nowadays any generator I look at better have a Honda or be really cheap, like the little 1500w I have with a briggs, it cost me $25 and runs great.
I know, you gotta go with what you've got JD but I don't have much use for any generwreck, coleman or any of the other bottom line makes that the big junk stores sell.

Just had a brainfart and called my cousin in east Texas
My dad sold his dad a PTO driven BIG JD generater
Takes a 50hp tractor to run it at full power under load
I just called to see if he still had it or if it still cranked out power
He laughed and said yes your generater runs good
    I said What?
He told me my dad loaned it to his dad. Both our dad's have past and he swears its mine
My dad past in 1976 so my cousins had it awhile
He said he thought I knew that
    Heck of a deal
I have a generater and no tractor anymore
Oh well he has 3 tractors if I needed it
He said he ran his full house off it in 82, 83 when we had no power for a week due to that 10 days
of below freezing weather and ice and snow

JD, $30 doesn't sound to expensive for anything with a moter on it
Had a Mc Collough generater years ago when we camped out in our trail rides
It had a 8hp B&S, think it was a 5kw or 5.5 kw. Had a unusual generater on it
It was tall about 20-24" and thin about 5-6"
    Worked good

i have had it running way back when--had to run partial choke & would not stay running then, but sounded good and made juice

if the gen doesn't work and the engine does ok, it might be my first homade motor bike

Sounds like the carb needs to be cleaned.

Just get one of those one gallon cans of carb cleaner, and let it soak overnight.

Will clean it up like a charm.

Had to do that with my 2 stroke carb on the snow thrower.

    agreed on the carb soak

it was mainly the pesky bowl o-ring that was critical--4.15 each---could not find a generic replacement--which confounded me

It'll be ok for a standby. It's just that they self destruct when you try to run them for very long at a time.

my basic need is to power a light string while i have the juice to the house shut down--i have some re-wiring to attend to and don't want to do it by flashlight--i could use the welder, but it is not that easy on petrol
