van back door window removal ??? Empty van back door window removal ???

Post by Admin Fri Apr 22, 2011 1:57 pm

i need to take out a back window and would like to save the glass.. is the best way to cut the rubber molding along the channel or what????

the last rear glass i removed was the 1 ton back window--i had that thing about an inch from being out when it exploded like it had been shot--i figured maybe i was a little bit agressive--it was my only attempt on those type of auto windows--travelall is no sweat, but it's a different system

    thanks

Can't help with this one, last window I replace was on the 67. Took the original out and a new sliding window with a new gasket

If you don't have to save the rubber just cut it with a razor knife.

I always try to get things nice and warm, and work some dish soap in around it...then usually I can work the window through the molding. The ones on the trucks are nicest..they have that center lock strip that comes out! Or....you can measure carefully, then smash it out with a hammer! lol!

I know on some windows they recommend using either piano wire or razor wire. Not the stuff that keeps cons in but the other stuff.

yessir---after my last attempt--i don't want to waste 20 min to end up with the same product that one swing with the old 5 lb trim hammer can give me in 2 secs--it's not so much saving the glass as it is not wanting to clean up the mess---had the new windshield put in the van 2 yrs and am still finding glass chunks now and then

i read that the mfgs quit putting the rear opening windows in due to carbon monoxide fears--my exhaust exits to the side in front of the rear wheel----i need a vent in one of those back doors and later possibly a 110 ac unit to be run off'n a gen set

ya know--i want to save the gasket--BFH wins--woo hoo :great:

Hey, you might be on to something, kind of a cross between Red Green and Dave's farm only okie style. That Dave's Farm guy gets a pretty good check every month from Youtube. And you are way more cool and interesting than he is.
